Description and further information

The small cylindrical bottle has straight, parallel sides. On two sides, overglaze-painted waterside landscape scenes are framed in purple. The tapering neck and the areas between the pictorial panels are decorated with colourful butterflies and insects. The cap is made of fire-gilt bronze. The Höchst Porcelain Manufactory was founded in 1746 under a privilege granted by Johann Carl von Ostein, Elector of Mainz. The privilege gave the company a monopoly on porcelain production within the territories governed by the Prince-Bishops of Mainz. It was the second-oldest porcelain manufactory in Germany. The factory closed in 1796.
