Description and further information

Allegory of the Battle of Jena. The lid is decorated with an allegorical relief of the Battle of Jena. Below, on the left, soldiers are shown seated on a turtle riding on the back of a crab; on the right, a crowned eagle stands upon the back of a rampant lion. In the sky, amid clouds, appears Emperor Francis, together with an eagle holding a sword and a cannon barrel. The base is encircled by twisted fluting radiating from a central rosette.
