Nuncia Pacis - snuffbox

Enamel snuff box commemorating the Peace of Hubertusburg. White enamel on copper with gilt-metal mounts. The exterior of the lid is painted with a view of Hubertusburg Palace, above which appears the figure of a trumpet-blowing angel of peace with the inscription “Messenger of Peace.” Below is an inscription referring to the place and date of the peace treaty that ended the Prussian–Austrian Seven Years’ War: “Hubertusburg, 15 February 1763.” The inside of the lid shows the allegorical female figure of Germania in a peaceful landscape, holding a sceptre and a flower or an ear of grain. The inscriptions read: “Now she dares to return” and “Peaceful Germany.”
