Belt buckles pair

Splendid belt buckle composed of four larger and four smaller lobes. Both in its techniques and motifs, the buckle evokes the world of eighteenth-century Hungarian goldsmiths’ work. The richly decorated buckle consists of two parts joined by a clasp. The base plates of the front sides are surrounded by gilded borders that emphasize the lobed form. The larger fields contain tulips and roses executed in coloured painted enamel, set among painted enamel leaves, while the smaller fields are set with turquoise stones in claw settings. In the fields surrounding the gemstones and vegetal motifs, silver filigree tendrils wind across the surface. In the central fields between the lobes are small heart-shaped ornaments, likewise made of coloured painted enamel and surrounded by silver filigree tendrils. At the centre of each of the middle fields is a pearl set within a green enamelled vegetal motif.
