Female portrait

Before a loosely draped green curtain stands an elegant lady, shown at knee length. She wears a feathered hat on her head, while her high-necked, closed dress is adorned with pearls. In her right hand, which rests on a cushion placed upon a pillar, she holds a feather fan; with her left hand she grasps her long, hanging belt. The green background gives particular warmth to the deep burgundy colour of the dress. The unknown painter of the portrait conveys with great mastery the caressing softness of the fan and the hat feather. The splendid dress and the pallor of the reservedly smiling face suggest an aristocratic sitter. Vilmos Tátrai, 1993.
