Engel with a Lamb

“I love the afternoon light, when forms burn away, when shapes begin to become less concrete, when the objecthood of things begins to dissolve, and perhaps their soul comes forth,” says the artist. From a formal point of view, Tamás Kárpáti’s pictorial world is characterised by the adoption and reinterpretation of Rembrandt’s treatment of colour and light, while in terms of content it is likewise defined by the concision and depth associated with the great predecessor. The artist has had two solo exhibitions at the Christian Museum and has donated several of his works to the collection.
