Description and further information
Standing figure of a bishop-saint with a man’s head under his feet. It was most likely one of the statues from a multi-figural sculptural composition of an altarpiece shrine.
The surface is strongly abraded. A significant portion of the present-day polychromy was retouched with hatching.
Provenance:
Ipolyi Collection 183 (?). It cannot be identified with any certainty: ‘183. Statue made of wood: Bishop St. Nicholas. 15th c.’ (Lakatos-Balla 295)
