Epitaph of Heinrich Cholnperger

The person commemorated in the epitaph, the knight kneeling before Mary, is identified by the inscription on the bottom of the panel, which also provides the date the epitaph was made:

The figure of the bishop standing behind the knight, recommending him to Mary’s protection, can be identified as St. Lambert (S(ankt) • Lambreht [sic! Lambrecht]) based on the inscription on the upper slat of the frame.

Ipolyi Collection 72. “72. Halottas kép deszkán; trónoló Madonna, előtte szt Lambert lábainál pánczélos vitéz czímerrel és czímeres sisakkal. Felírása szerint Heinricus Cholperger készítette 1647-ből.”(Lakatos-Balla-2012 293) /‘72. Epitaph on a panel; enthroned Madonna, at the feet of St. Lambert before her an armed knight with shield and helmet with coat of arms. According to the inscription made by Heinricus Cholperger in 1647.’
