Christ as Man of Sorrows on a throne, flanked by Mary and St. John the Evangelist
relief work
szélesség: 55 cm
mélység: 12 cm
Description and further information
The figure of the Man of Sorrows seated on a throne is being supported by Mary and St. John the Evangelist. Christ’s body is not only in the central position, but the presentation of his wounds is accentuated in the composition. His figure is also disproportionately larger than the other two.
Burn marks are prominent on the left side (Mary’s back and side) and the upper part (the heads of Mary and Christ) of the carving. The paint is fragmented. In many places the surface was aggressively cleaned and in some parts repainted.
When the relief work was restored in 1984-85, it was placed on a new support and framed.
